1. Why is my water pressure low?

If you have a filter system or a water softener be sure to check the filters. Make sure you do not have a broken water line. Check to see if your water was disconnected for nonpayment.

2. Why does my water smell different?

Sometimes due to temperature changes, the lake may turn. This can cause a peculiar odor, but it does not affect the quality of your water.

3. Where does my water come from?

The City of Seagoville purchases their water from the City of Dallas, which pulls from the Elm Fork Trinity River, Lake Tawakoni, Lake Ray Hubbard and Bachman Lake.

4. If there is a leak on the valve in the meter box, am I being charged for the water?

No, you are not charged for this water because it isn't going through the meter.

5. Do I need a backflow preventer on my lawn irrigation system?

Yes you do, there are all sorts of contaminants lurking in your soil that can and will make you sick even to the point of death. Contaminates in the soil can find their way back into the water supply. Therefore, the City code requires a backflow preventer on each irrigation meter.

6. Why is my water discolored?

• Brown water—possibly caused by water line construction in the area, hydrant flushing or manganese in the water supply. Call 972-287-6823 to report the problem.
• Milky/cloudy water—air bubbles from the pipes or a temperature change.
• Yellow Water—Manganese or resin from water softener.
• Black particles—usually degraded rubber gaskets, o-rings or meter washers. Check faucet head and replace o-ring.

7. How much water am I using?

• 1 Drop per second leak ~ 2,400 gallons per year.
• Bathtub ~ 30 gallons per filling
• Shower ~ 2 gallons per minute
• Commode ~ 1.6 gallons per flush
• Sprinkler ~ 2 gallons per minute

8. How do I diagnose a water leak?

• Find water leaking
• Check water meter to see if indicator is showing usage, ensure that all water is turned off in the home (There is a triangle dial in center of water meter if water is running or leaking the triangle will be rotating)
• If all water is off in the home and the meter is showing usage the leak belongs to the customer.
• If the meter is not showing any water consumption then the leak will most likely belong to the city.
• Sometimes leaks can be so small that the meter will barely turn. Take a minute to write the meter reading down and ensure that no water will be running while you are away when you come back several hours later the meter reading should be the same as you left it earlier, if not the customer has a potential water leak.
