1. Is a permit required for a storage building or accessory building in a residential area?

If the accessory building is less than 120 square feet in area, no permit is required. However, if an accessory building is 120 square feet or greater, or multiple buildings total 120 square feet or greater, a permit is required. Call 972-287-6829 for more information.

2. When is a permit required?

Permits are required when constructing, remodeling, or enlarging a building. Permits are also required for other improvements to your property.

Projects that are cosmetic, such as painting, wallpapering, carpeting, cabinets, and trim work do not require permits. Additionally, permits are not required when replacing fixtures on existing wiring or fixtures to existing plumbing.

3. How much does a permit cost?

4. Are retaining walls required to have a permit?

All retaining walls over 48 inches in height are required to have a permit.
