  • Use anti-theft devices on your vehicle

  • Stay alert and aware of your surroundings
  • Avoid dark or vacant areas
  • Use the buddy system
  • Know your neighbors and your neighborhood
  • Don't flaunt large amounts of money or expensive items
  • Walk facing traffic
  • Carry emergency money for phone calls or cabs
  • Never hitchhike
  • Take a basic self-defense class
  • Carry a loud whistle and use it if you feel you're in danger
  • Don't let strangers into your home without identifying them to your satisfaction
